Sword; EA Armstrong, Model 1860, Presentation, Logan Cadets, 1907.

A Model 1860 S & F Presentation Sword to Capt. J.F. Allan, Logan Cadets, 1907, an exceptional example of a late Model 1860 Staff and Field sword made by E.A. Armstrong, Mfg. Co., Chicago. Pristine diamond-shaped presentation blade is like new; no nicks, no rust, with heavy use of gold etching over bright metal. On obverse, presented to Capt. J. F. Allan by Logan Cadets, Dec, 10-'07. On reverse are etched scrolls and U.S. The sharkskin grip and original wire are excellent, tight and intact with no wear. The casting quality on the gold gilt brass hilt is of very high quality. Counterguard features American eagle with arms; hinged guard displays arms and American shield. Complete with original, mint condition gold bullion & black silk sword knot. Scabbard retains near 99% nickel with no dents, no scratches and just one worn spot approx .35 sq". Brass fittings of high quality and casting. With original chamois leather storage sleeve. No information known on Captain Allan or the Logan Cadets, but the sword originated in Chicago where Blackjack Logan of Civil War fame in honored with an imposing statue. Likely a school troop or local militia club associated with the Illinois National Guard of the period. ...[more information available via subscription]
