Rifle; Remington, Model 1867 Rolling Block, Navy Carbine, 50-45 Caliber.

A Remington Model 1867 Navy Rolling Block Carbine Rifle. Cal. 50-45. SN 123 (assembly no. 37304). One of about 5,000 such carbines ordered by Navy in 1867 & delivered in 1868 & 1869. This carbine has 23.25" round blued barrel, pinched blade front sight, 2-position flip rear sight, made without sling bar & ring & mounted with uncheckered, slab sawed, American walnut with straight stock & carbine/musket style buttplate. It has sgl bbl band with sling loop & a corresponding loop in buttstock. Right side of receiver has the "P/F.C.W." & anchor inspector marks and right side of forearm & right side of wrist have inspector initials "FCW" in a rectangle. Left side of bbl is stamped "123" in small numbers. Number "37304" is found on left side of top & bottom tangs, under wood.
