A first quarter 19th century, Alexander Tarbell Willard, Ashby, Massachusetts, (1774 to 1850) Federal tall case clock. Paint-decorated and grained made by Alexander Tarbell Willard, Ashby, Massachusetts, 1800 to 1830. The bonnet with concave molded arched cornice surmounted by three spire-turned wooden finials centering pierce-carved cresting. The astragal-arched door flanked by freestanding columns opening to an unusual conforming painted and gilt-decorated wooden face surmounted by a painted floral spray above a large seconds dial painted with the name 'Alex. T. Willard/Ashby' within an oval gilt patera. The Roman numeral chapter ring overlapping the seconds dial and containing time-and-strike apertures to the wooden movement. The face painted with floral spandrels. The case with panel door, the box base with concave molding and small shaped cutout feet....[more information available via subscription]
