A circa 1946 Thomas Mercer, St Albans, England, gimbaled marine chronometer with mahogany case, serial no. 23968. Note this case never had a lid, has always been a full display case. The silvered dial with original hands. An engraved plaque mounted on the case has the following information: "Supplied by Alfr. Gronneberg, Fredrickstad, Norway, No. 23968".

The firm of Thomas Mercer made over 30,000 chronometers before it was sold by the family in the early 1980s. The inner flange on the movement bears the same serial number, as does the dial. There is a repair service order for this piece from a Portuguese firm in 1984. ...[more information available via subscription]
