Wheeling Glass; Peachblow, Morgan Vase & Griffin Holder, 10 inch.
A Wheeling Peachblow Morgan vase with original griffin holder having an acid finish, mahogany at the top and custard at bottom.
p4A.com note: the shape of this vessel in peachblow is called a "Morgan Vase" as it replicates a famous Chinese porcelain peach bloom vase (Qing Dynasty, made 1710-1712 in a color sometimes called "kidney bean red" in Chinese with as "three-string" neck)in the collection of Mrs. Mary J. Morgan of New York City which at her death was sold by the American Art Association auctionhouse for $18,000 to Mr. William Walters of Baltimore - a fantastic, almost unbelievable price for the time. That vase was exhibited at the Walters Art Gallery and remains on display at that museum today....[more information available via subscription]
