A Model 1860 Civil War Officer's Cavalry Saber with gilt cast knuckle bow and hilt, etched blade and steel scabbard, by W.H. Horstmann & Sons. Slow curve to bright steel blade with panel on each side within flute and cutting edge richly etched with scrolls and patriotic motifs, including on the right side: two stands of arms and flags; ricasso stamped with small crowned head motif (German blademaker), etched near crossguard with W.H.HORSTMANN/& SONS/PHILADELPHIA.

The left side of blade panel featuring vase and flowers motif with stand of arms and flags, scrolls, border devices, and leaf motif; on top of upper section of blade, the etched inscription IRON-PROOF, and with leaf motifs. Knuckle bow cast and chased, including acorns, leaves, shield motif and with eagle on inside top of front of crossguard; front of pommel shield motif and border of leaves.
