Muss-Arnolt, Gustave; Oil on Canvas Painting, signed, Portrait of a Horse.

An Equestrian scene by Gustave Muss-Arnolt (American, 1858 to 1927). Oil on canvas, signed lower left Magnetic '91 G. Muss-Arnolt. A fine depiction of a chestnut mare formally posed alongside 4-rail, white fence. The horse is shown with four white stockings and a white snip on its nuzzle.

Gustave Muss-Arnolt (1858 to 1927) was from Avon, Massachusetts and most well-known for his fine sporting dog paintings. Between 895 and 1909, he produced over 170 illustrations for the American Kennel Club Gazette. He also created illustrations for Harper's Weekly, and he was a regular exhibitor at the NAD.

Magnetic was foaled in 1886 by the Ill-Used, out of Magnetism by Kingfisher. Magnetic was bred by noted horseman August Belmont and latter owned by tobacco magnate Piere Lorrilard....[more information available via subscription]
