Musket; Model 1808 Flintlock Contract, Millbury, 1815, 69 Caliber.
A Millbury Model 1808 Flintlock Musket. No serial number. 69 Cal. 42.375" round barrel. Marked "eagle / US in an oval / MILLBURY." on the lockplate in front of the hammer and the date 1815 horizontal at the rear of the lockplate. It is also marked "MS / · / P / US / M / 1815" on the barrel and "25" on the top tang of the buttplate and "MS" on the left flat of the stock. 4270 of these muskets were made by Elijah and Asa Waters in partnership with Nathanial Whitmore of Sutton, MA. Many of the guns delivered to the states under the "Arming the Militia act" carried the Millbury address instead of the Sutton....[more information available via subscription]
